Trailer Trash – The Ides of March
“Who is it in the press that calls on me?
I hear a tongue shriller than all the music
Cry ‘Caesar!’ Speak, Caesar is turn’d to hear.”
“Beware the ides of March!”
“What Man is that?”
“A Soothsayer bids you beware the ides of March”
Julius Caesar, The Bard
So no, if you were wondering whether or not I had made a typo in the title you now have your answer. When naming his latest directorial effort George Clooney didn’t decide to create his own language, rather he just borrowed some of the Bard’s distinctive dialogue. In fact it seems that he has borrowed a little more than that from Julius Caesar for his his latest film, which tells the story of a high-minded political leader (Played by Clooney himself) set to take on a hectic race at the democratic primaries before an entanglement of loyalties with his prodigious but naive media manager -potentially- brings him down in what looks set to be a stunning ‘Et tu, Gosling’ moment. But I should stop summarizing and simply let you see the adaptation in action.
I’m a sucker for a good political thriller and this looks set to be one of the best of them. Any one name from this cast is usually enough to get me into seeing a picture but having Clooney, Gosling, Hoffman, Giamatti and Wright all acting together is sure to be incredible. Especially given the fact that they will be doing so under the hand of Clooney who despite his small filmography is already one of my favourite directors; Good Night in particular proves that he knows how to handle this political media material very well and it’s a story all the more relevant now than it was back in the time of the Julian calender.
So yes, I’m excited, very excited for this one.
